Information Literacy in the Era of Donald Trump: Helping Students Evaluate Information and Engage in Civic Online Reasoning

Come join a discussion aimed at improving students' ability to gauge the credibility of information. In response to the 2016 presidential election and discouraging findings from a recent study by researchers at Stanford's School of Education, we will explore activities that you can use on the first day of class to provide students with tools for discerning authority, accuracy, bias, and purpose. Together, what skills can we give our students to improve the chances of our democracy's survival in an age of fake news, snake oil, and post-truth politics?
