FYE Service Learning Project

Final Presentation and Paper:
Paper:  Please submit one set of answers to the following questions per person:
  1. What is the topic your group has chosen? (1 sentence stating topic is fine)

  2. Restate your vision that you submitted in your project proposal.  If your group’s vision has changed between when you first submitted the proposal and now, please only include the updated vision.

  3. Personal Knowledge: One way we gain information about things is through our personal experiences.  Write about your personal experience with the issue you have chosen.  How have you or others around you experienced this injustice, barrier, or problem?  Please “dig deep” here and write about not only your personal experience, but also thoughts and feelings that are associated with the experiences. (Minimum 1 paragraph)

  4. Research: Although knowledge through personal experience is powerful, it is also important to back up an issue or a stance on an issue with research outside the personal realm.  Write about the issue you have chosen and cite credible sources. (Minimum 1 paragraph)

  5. Taking Action: Write 1 paragraph on the action your group decided to take.  What steps did you take to accomplish this?  How was this experience for you?  What do you feel you gained?  How do you feel like you made a difference?

  6. Thinking back to the 8 Steps of Creating Change, the last two steps were 1) not letting up and 2) making things stick.  Now that you are done, if you were to continue working on this issue, what could some next steps be?

Final Presentation:
  1. Your final will be to create a Power Point presentation outlining the issue (including both personal experience and credible citations) and presenting how your group took action.  Please also include all answers to the other questions asked for in the final paper.  More information on the presentation will be explained later in the semester.
