Essay 2: The Healing Power of ____

Due Dates
Annotated Bibliography
Rough Draft
Final Draft

The Hook:
This past summer I asked a friend of mine who is a recent college graduate what are challenges facing students today. She answered thoughtfully that self-care was missing from the life of a student. What is self-care exactly?  What contributes to health and well-being? What has the power to heal? In conducting a quick Google search of “healing power,” I skim to find the answers are prayer, touch, sleep, and crystals. When I use the Library’s SuperSearch [database] I find different answers. Begin with what we have discussed in class. Write a four - five page paper, in which you analyze the evidence of the healing power of one or two practices, while convincing your audience that this practice should be incorporated. Your essay must be an evidence-based argument. Anecdotal evidence is inadequate. A range of compelling evidence from credible sources is required.

The Writing Task:
You are writing to the College VP of Student Learning. You have an audience who is skeptical but who who seeks your input in expanding services.

●     How does the healing power of  ______  help people to learn and grow?
●     Why should the COM program include this healing practice?

OR

You are writing to the local hospital. You have an audience who is skeptical but who seeks your input in expanding services.

●     How does the healing power of  ______ help people in recovery from injuries, illness, or disorders?
●     Why should the hospital program include this healing practice?

Compose a well-developed, well-organized, fluent, and well-proofread essay which is 2,000 words long. (You may go slightly above this word number.)

Be sure to contextualize your essay by responding to how and why others may disagree with your topic. Be sure to summarize, quote and respond to three - six credible sources.
