Escrows Assignment #1

Welcome, Real Estate 219 students!  During the library session, you will learn how to get help on the Real Estate Escrows Assignment #1.  Use the yellow tabs on this guide to help you track down this information after our session.
Instructions for Escrows Assignment #1:
  • Choose one of the topics below.
  • You may work in groups -- no more than 3. 
  • All group members names must appear on the 1 written assignment handed in.
  • Research your topic.
  • Write a paper not to exceed 5 pages (1250 words). 
  • All assignments must be typed, 12 pt font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins.
  • Prepare a 10-12 minute class presentation explaining your topic and research.  If you choose to work in groups, all members must participate in the presentation.
Research Topic Choices:
  1. Escrow practices in another state (choose just one). Highlight differences between that State's practice and California. Suggested states are New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, New York, or Iowa but other states are acceptable if their practices differ from ours.
  2. Title practices in another state (choose just one). Highlight differences between that State's practice and California. Suggested States are New York, Massachusetts, or Iowa but other states are acceptable if their practices differ from ours.
  3. Notary practices in another state (choose just one). Highlight differences between that State's practice and California. Suggested States are Hawaii, Montana, Tennessee, West Virginia, or Ohio but other states are acceptable if their practices differ from ours.
  4. Mortgage documents vs Note and Deed of Trust documents and how the two differ in terms of parties involved, foreclosure processes, and how an escrow must handle them.
  5. Warranty Deeds and how they are used (choose just one) in the Escrow and Title Processes. Recommended State is New Mexico but any State
